Lake Norman Elementary PTO Minutes for September 13th, 2010

Meeting was opened by President Cresa Alberseat the Media Center at 2:30pm

Officers and Chairpersons in attendance: Cresa Alberse, Sean Greene, Yolanda Regan,Dr. Nutting, Paige Johnson, Tina Ekberg, Lori Rainey, Fara Malstbarger, Kristin Matas, Candy McCarty,

Teacher Members in attendance: Mrs Raz, Ms Pritchett, Ms Chappell, Ms Dunker, Ms Kersten, Ms Turner, Ms Kaesar

Parent Members in attendance: None

Acceptance of past month’s minutes: Motion by Lori and Tina, all in favor.

Introductions of new members and greetings: Going around the table the members

And officers introduced themselves and planned for a great new school year.

Budget:Cresa went over budget with handouts. No questions presented.

Box Tops/Fundraising:Cresa handed out out sea animal friends for the LNE 100% fundraising event. Each grade has a different animal. Catch The Wave is in full force.

Community Dinner:Next dinner night is at Donatos on Oct 6th- 5-8pm.

General Meeting:Dr Nutting advised that the School Superintendent Mr Brady would be in attendance and willing to answer questions posed to him. Additionally our newest School Board member from the Mooresville area would also be present.

Welcome Back Coffee:The time was changed to 9:15am to accommodate parents who drop a sibling off to day care or nursery school. Many parents offered to bring refreshments.

Fall Festival: Lori advised that they would like to raffle off an ipod touch at the festival. A meeting for the committee will be held Oct 17th in room 403.

Lori would like to sign the contract for the rides and games as discussed previously. Motion by Yolanda, second by Cresa all in favor to authorize spending $40.40.00 for the contract.

LNE Science Night: Cresa advised that Bob Evans will be providing pancakes again, we may have a raffle also. Teachers will display items outside their classroom doors. Oct 19th.

School Store/Book Fair: Yolanda advised that the school store will be ordering new items shortly, many orders came in from the sheets sent home the first week and she will fill the orders. School Store is open Friday mornings. Always looking for help….

Book Fair needs extra volunteers to help in the Media Center. A new website will be set up to assist volunteers signing up for open spots.

Principal Update: Dr Nutting advised that the policy of id tags and badges will be enforced and it is for student safety. Most parents commenting were overwhelmingly in favor of the policy.

Dr Nutting advised that parents are asked to drop items left at home to Arlene in the front office. This will increase study and concentration time. Fewer interruptions equals increased studying time.

Safe to school sidewalk program is getting ready to start. Dr Nutting advised that this project is completely separate from the Brawley School Rd project. February is the expected start month for this very important project.

Smartboards are in almost every class for every grade, with the exception of Kindergarten. Enhancements are next up.

New Business: Cresa went over some PTO Guidelines for reference with each chairperson or Board officer.

Mrs Turner thanked the PTO for reupholstering the sofas in the Media Center.

Ms TLC sent a thank you note to the PTO Board for the headsets she received.

Sean suggested possibly starting $500 scholarships for former LNE students for college assistance for purchasing books. Item was tabled for further discussion.
