JOB TITLE: GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS CHAIRPERSON

ACCOUNTABILITY STANDARDS:

The Governmental Affairs committee will monitor and inform the RMPANA membership of significant legislative activity that impacts nursing and, specifically, perianesthesia nursing practice. The Governmental Affairs Chairperson will be appointed by the President and will be a voting member of the Board of Directors.

PREREQUISITES:

1.Committee Chairperson/members will serve a minimum of 2 years.

2.Membership shall be staggered so as not to interrupt committee activities.

3.Chairperson and members must have an expressed interest in the legislative process and posses communication skills for the expressed purpose of impacting a process.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Establishes and updates annually a list of contactpersons at component hospitals.

2.Reviews and updates informational packets foreach hospital contact person. The packet will contain:

a.Sample letters to be used when writing to State and

Federal Senators and Representatives.

b.A list of the names, addresses, and possible committee

responsibilities of State and Federal Senators and

Representatives.

3. Monitors State and Federal legislative activity.

4. Disseminates legislative information related to healthcare to

members via web site, newsletter and emails.

5. Sends alerts or rapidresponse to membership of pending legislation requiring immediate action.

6.Serves as a resource for RMPANAmembership regarding the legislative process.

7.Seeks endorsement of the RMPANA Board to develop position statements and to represent themembership on specificgovernmental issues.

8.Through membership or frequent communication, forms a liaison with ASPAN’s Governmental Affairs Committee.

9.Seeks membership funding from RMPANA for representation to CFNO.

10. Participates in statewide nursing functions as RMPANA representative.

11. Solicits proclamation of PANAW Week from Governors (CO, WY, and NE).

13.Submits a report to the Editor of The Air Exchange for each edition.

14. Submits to RMPANA President a mid and year-end report on activities

of the committee, to include a projected budget for the following

year.
