DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties: Performs a wide variety of tasks associated with the care and maintenance of City owned buildings, including but not limited to: City Hall, Police Department, Fire Hall, Public Library and Community Center.

Supervision Received: Works under general supervision of the City Administration.

Supervision Exercised: None.

TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED

The listed examples may not include all duties performed under this class. Duties may vary somewhat between city-owned locations.

Weekly Responsibilities:

*Empty, wash and re-line garbage containers.

*Vacuum general carpeted areas moving chairs, tables and equipment where possible and vacuum area rugs.

*Dust file cabinets, countertops, cleared desk tops, equipment (including computers, phones, fax, copier, printers and monitors), using proper cleaning solution where necessary, maps and pictures.

*Clean all coffee pots and wash dishes.

*Sweep and mop all non-carpeted areas.

*Clean toilets, stalls, floors and walls thoroughly.

*Clean mirrors.

*Refill paper products.

*Check soap dispenser.

*Perform related duties as assigned or apparent.

Monthly Responsibilities:

*Wash interior glass windows and doors.

*Wax vinyl floors.

*Clean oven when necessary.

*Perform related duties as assigned or apparent.

EQUIPMENT USED:

*Vacuum.

*Cleaning detergents and supplies.

*Step ladder.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:

*Ability to use good judgment in the safe usage of household cleaning supplies and equipment.

*Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

*Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

*Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, exercises good judgment, and employ good time management skills.

*Ability to schedule maintenance times during unoccupied hours at each location.

*Ability to maintain good interpersonal skill and communications with Administration staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

*Previous custodial work experience.

*Ability to do manual work.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

*Must comply with organizational and departmental policies, including confidentiality

and security practices.

Any and all documents seen shall be kept confidential.

All doors shall be adequately locked before leaving premises.

*Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

*Must pass a police background check.

WORK SCHEDULE:

*The typical work hours for this position are 10-15 hours per week. Other hours and call duty may be required as assigned.
