SWAS Questionnaire results

The summary of the results of the questionnaire are as follow;

·  More than half the members don’t seem bothered with less than a 50% return. (18 out of 39).

·  A big majority want evening meetings to continue, not many want the meetings to be in the daytime only, and most want a combination.

·  A ratio of 2:1 want visiting experts for demos.

·  Most people want practical evening to do their own thing but only by 11 to 6, with 1 don’t know.

·  Big majorities want workshops included in the programme as well as life drawing.

·  Very few want painting only demos, the big majority wanting a wide range of art subjects.

·  Everyone wants exhibitions to continue at a variety of venues but few have suggestions about locations.

·  Most people want trips to galleries and trips to paint out of doors.

The Committee have taken the view that these results show that the members want to extend the range of meetings to include the daytime as well as the evening so we should continue with Willaston Memorial Hall Monday afternoon meetings. The range of art subjects should be varied and mixed with some workshops,( possibly some aimed at the daytime meetings), delivered by visiting experts; so the programme should continue with its present range. People don’t seem to want organising for the practical sessions; but might welcome some of this time being given over to workshops or discussion and DVD’s on art. Exhibtions seem very popular but venues seem an issue, so maybe we should settle on one annual venue we can bank on, and build a reputation around that, and look at other ideas for the rest of the year, such as festivals, market stalls and vacant shops. Visits should be included into the programme, maybe at the expense of an evening meeting/demonstrator. This would save money on booking artists as trips tend to be self financing. Maybe two over summer; one for a gallery and one to paint.

NB the numbers at the top of the chart relate to the questions in the questionniare ie 1 to 14 – see the next page.
