Heronswood®Spring Plant Sale & Garden Open:

May 16 from 10 am to 4 pm

Heronswood® Garden is gearing up for its Spring Plant Sale & Garden Open on Saturday, May 16 from 10 am to 4 pm. This event, which is typically the most popular of all of Heronswood’s annual Opens, comes on the heels of their successful Early Spring Plant Sale, which drew hundreds of people from all over the region.

Spring is when a garden comes alive and Heronswood is no exception. At the May 16 event, visitors can tour the garden as it begins to wake up fully from its long winter’s nap. While private tours of the garden are available, the Spring sale is one of the few opportunities for the public to experience the beauty of Heronswood without a reservation.

For each Plant Sale & Garden Open, Heronswood partners with nurseries from across the Pacific Northwest. The Spring vendor line-up includes Celestial Dream, Chimacum Woods, Cistus Nursery, Dancing Oaks, Desert Northwest, Dragonfly Farms Nursery, Fancy Fronds, Far Reaches Farm, Foxglove, Friendly Natives, Keeping It Green, Longbranch Nursery, Naylor Creek, Phocus Farms, Sundquist, and Windcliff, the private garden of Dan Hinkley and Robert Jones, Heronswood’s co-founders.

Hinkley, who also serves as Heronswood’s Garden Director, will also entertain, educate, and inspire with two lectures: “Best Vining Plants for the Pacific Northwest Garden” (@10:30 am) and “Favorite Trees for the Smaller Gardens” (@ 1:30 pm). At Heronswood’s Plant Sale events, Hinkley’s lectures are always a big draw with seats filling up sometimes minutes after they become available.

Guest lecturers are also very popular and the Spring event will bring Lucy Hardiman, a nationally recognized garden designer, writer, teacher, and speaker. Hardiman is also the owner and principal of the award-winning Perennial Partners, a collaborative garden design group in Portland, Oregon.

At Heronswood’s Spring Plant Sale & Garden Open, Hardiman will share her expertise on “The Color Full Garden: Personalizing Your Garden with a Spectrum of Plants, Art, and Furnishings” (@ Noon).

Admission to the Plant Sale and all lectures is free of charge. Entrance to the garden for a self-guided tour is $10. Tickets for each lecture become available at the Information Booth 30 minutes before start time.

Attendees will be able to sign up to become supporters of the garden under the new membership structure, which includes levels from Senior or Student ($30) and Individual ($50) to Enthusiast ($250) and Patron ($1000). Memberships are renewed on an annual basis with each level offering different benefits and rewards. All levels of membership receive free admission to tour the garden during Garden Open & Plant Sales.

All proceeds will go towards the restoration and maintenance of the garden.

The 2015 schedule of Plant Sale & Garden Open events at Heronswood also includes Summer (July 25) and Fall (September 19).

Heronswood is located at 7530 NE 288th Street, Kingston, Washington. You can find more information online at HeronswoodGarden.org and Facebook.com/Heronswood.
