Grading Policy50% Class Work

5% Homework

45% Unit Assessments

Class WorkThe students total class work grade is made up of work that is done in class (collected and not collected), as well as drills, teacher made assignments and projects. There will be 4 projects throughout the year. (One each marking period)

HomeworkHomework will be assigned between 2-3 nights a week depending on our schedule and if we have an exam that week. Homework’s if collected and graded are worth 10 points or and each is graded 5 points for completeness, 2 points for neatness and effort, and 3 points for accuracy. Checked Homework’s are just worth 2 points.

Homework can be turned in late with a 2 point deduction each day late. If a student is absent he/she is expected to turn in the assignment that was due the day they were absent, the following day.

Unit AssessmentsEach chapter will conclude with a Unit Assessment provided by Baltimore County and may be altered by the teacher. There will be 3 of these assessments each quarter. Each assessment is graded out of 100 points.

All Unit Assessments must be complete if a student is absent the day of an assessment they are expected to make prior arrangements or to take it the day they return to school. Make-Up Exams can only be done after school, before school or during lunch.

ProjectsEach marking period will contain one project that will make up 20% of the class work grade for that quarter. The projects are as follows:

First Quarter: Geometer’s Sketchpad Project

Second Quarter: Written Research Paper 3-4 pages typed doubled- spaced 12 font (Ariel or Times New Roman)

Third Quarter: Book/Movie Report on the book/movie “Flatland”

Fourth Quarter: Right Triangle Trigonometry Surveying Project

Attendance PolicyThe attendance policy for this class is the same as the OMHS attendance policy 5 total absences in any quarter regardless of reason results in a failing class work grade which will most likely lead to a failing grade for the quarter. Three unexcused absences (no note) will also result in a failing grade for the quarter.

Lateness Policy1) First Lateness = Warning

2) Second Lateness = Phone call home

3) Third Lateness = Phone call home + 30 minute detention

4) Fourth Lateness = Phone call home + 45 minute detention + office referral.

Food/Drink PolicyThe only thing permitted in class is water NO other types of drinks or food are permitted unless a nurse/doctor note is given.

Bathroom PolicyI would prefer that all students go to the bathroom before class starts or during lunch but if needed, I will write passes for one student at a time up to 3-4 passes each quarter. Unless a nurses pass is presented.

TutoringTutoring is available almost any day of the week students must simply let me know a day or more in advance so I can make sure there is no conflicts.

TextbookStudents will receive a textbook at their request, but will get the log in information to access the online version of the book on the first day. Homework will sometimes be assigned from the text book and all students are responsible for keeping the textbook in good condition if lost or damaged a $90 fine will be assessed in order to receive their schedule/diploma the following year.
