Sequence/Directions (Details of how a to move through the activity from start to finish)

1. Set up the board like the picture below so the different colored pieces correspond with the way they are set up in the picture. One player will be red and the other will be white.

2.Each player moves their pieces in the opposite direction. One clockwise and the other counter clock wise.

3. As shown in the picture each player has a home side of the board and they are trying to get all of their pieces to the home side.

4. To begin the game each player will roll one die to see who goes first. The player who rolls the higher number begins the game.

5. This player takes both die, puts them in the shaker and drops them to the right of the board.

6. The numbers on the dice correspond to the number of moves each game piece can move. So if a player rolls a 2 and a 3 they can move one game piece 2 spaces and a different game piece 3 spaces. You cannot add the numbers of the 2 dice to move one piece that many spaces (in the above example you cannot move one piece 5 spaces)

7.When a player has at least 2 game pieces on a space, the opponent cannot move their game piece onto that space. When a player only has one game piece on a space, the opposing player can land their game piece on the same space and this causes the other players’ game piece to be put on the “bar”.

8. The bar is the ledge in the middle of the board that separates the two halves of the game. When a game piece is moved to the bar, the player who has that game piece must move it before moving any other pieces. They must take the piece from the bar and start at the beginning of the board trying to move their game piece to their home side.

9.Once all of the pieces are on the home side, the player can begin to move them to get them off the board.

10. When all pieces are off the board and into the home base, that player wins the game.

SIMPLIFYING AND COMPLICATING THIS ACTIVITY:

Ways to SIMPLIFY demands / Ways to make more COMPLEX
Cognitively / Play with less game pieces, play with only one die, don’t include the rule with the bar / Add another die, add more game pieces so it’s harder to get all pieces to the home side of the board
Physically / Have a button to push for the number of spaces you move instead of physically rolling the die, the use of any adaptive equipment to move the game pieces. / Stand while playing, have opponent complete a physical task when the other player gets a game piece to the home side (10 jumping jacks, 10 push ups etc.)
Socially / Don’t keep score of points scored by each player (takes away the competitive edge) / Have players be on 2 teams and switch out with their teammate after every turn
