Prospective Magnet Student Profile
·  Must have a 75% average or higher in core courses in 6th, 7th and 1st 9 weeks of 8th grade
·  Must have met state requirement for promotion to the next grade level
·  Must have 95% attendance and satisfactory or better discipline record
·  Must sign a Letter of Intent to enroll in and complete a post-secondary degree/certification program
Application Checklist
A complete application must include:
¨  Parts A – D: Student Information, Current School Information, Magnet School Information, and Parent Commitment
¨  Part E: Student Essay
¨  Two Teacher Recommendations (Use forms provided)
For Medical, Engineering and Technical professions – 1 math or science and one other teacher
For Law and Business professions – 1 social studies or English and one other teacher
For other professions – 1 core teacher and one additional teacher
¨  Copy of STAAR scores for Grade 7 (Private school students may provide most recent standardized test results.)
¨  Copy of student grade reports for ____ Grade 6 ____ Grade 7 ____ Grade 8 (1st 9 weeks)
¨  Copy of attendance history for ____ Grade 6 ____ Grade 7 ____ Grade 8 (1st 9 weeks)

IMPORTANT DATES

Ø  Friday, November 21, 2014 – Currently enrolled SAISD students submit completed applications to school counselors

Ø  Friday, December 12, 2014 – All students and counselors submit completed applications to the Charter, Magnet and Summer Schools Office in the Burnet Center at 406 Barrera St., 78210

Ø  Friday, March 6, 2015 – Notification letters mailed to students

Ø  Friday, April 17, 2015 – Accepted students return Letters of Commitment to Magnet Coordinators

Applications will only be reviewed by a student’s second choice school if not accepted by the first choice school.
