116th Infantry Regiment Foundation Facts, Information and Events to be aware of 2015-2016:

Who we are:The 116th Infantry Regiment Foundation, Inc., (116thIRF, Inc.), is a non-profit charitable organization under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

What we do: We operate The Stonewall Brigade Museum, in leased property at 566 Lee Highway, Verona, VA 24482.

How: Donations, retail sales with 100% Volunteers (11 – 15). No salaried personnel of any kind.

Why?: To preserve 274 years of Virginia, US and Military History of the seventh oldest Regiment in the US Army Support the 116th BCT Annual Muster, and provide education to the public.

Open Year Round - Monday through Saturday 10 AM till 5PM.

Aug 31 - Staunton, VA: Virginia World War I Centennial Committee, at Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, 10 A.M.

Delegate Betsy Carr, spearheads the committee to coordinate WWI events, publicize, and work with the National WWI Committee.

This is a volunteer group created by the General Assembly to help coordinate all Virginia WWI activities and events. They are trying to organize the events, publicize the same, and encourage recognition of the importance of WWI.

Attendees on 31 Aug will include the Virginia War Memorial Education Foundation, the 116th Infantry Regiment Foundation and Museum, and other organizations.

2016. “Observance Event(s)” Example possibly a focused newspaper series on the news events leading up to the Virginia Guard units being ordered to active service by President Woodrow Wilson to participate in Mexican Border Duty under General Pershing’s command. 2016. Sponsor a multi-period Reenactor Encampment – on BG (Ret) Shuey’s property adjacent to the 116th Museum in Verona, VA. April to June timeframe.

D-Day Observances in partnership with the International D-Day Monument and Foundation, Staunton and Bedford, VA. Point of contact Col (Retired) Buddy Faulconer.

Ceremony in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum in observance of the date the 2nd and 4th Virginia National Guard Infantry Regiment soldiers, soon to become the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, left “Their Valley” for “Over There”
